Comenzando ahora el repaso de los Finales de Torres y Peones, veamos en primer lugar los finales de Torre contra Peón (o peones)
Primero veamos ciertos procedimientos en la lucha entre torre y peones.
Torre contra Peón - 01 Estudio por Troitsky

Una torre raramente pierde contra un peón, pero aquí el rey negro está bloqueando el camino
de su torre a la octava horizontal. 1.d7♜g6+2.♚e5!
En posiciones como esta Euwe recomienda usar la regla del "cuadrado", el lado del cuadrado
siendo alargado por el número de casillas requerido por el rey negro para alcanzar un punto desde el
cual controlar la casilla de coronación del peón. En este caso dado dos casillas deben ser añadidas
al "cuadrado" del peón f5, y así es que el blanco puede entrar al "cuadrado extendido". 1.♜e1+!El
método correcto es transferir la torre a la casilla de coronación del peón, entonces será apoyada
por su propio rey.
[Pero el directo 1.♚g7no
gana, ya que el negro gana un tiempo por atacar la torre (con la torre en a1 la victoria hubiera sido
simple) 1...♚e32.♚g6
La manera de defenderse contra dos peones ligados muy avanzados es llevando a la torre a la retaguardia del peón líder y atacar al peón de la retaguardia con el rey. De nuevo la regla del "cuadrado" puede simplificar el cálculo: unas tablas pueden ser alcanzadas si el rey entra al "cuadrado" del peón de la retaguardia (la torre debe ya estar atacando la casilla de coronación del peón líder). Para el jugador desatento una celada está esperando: ¡el oponente puede cambiar los papeles del peón líder y el peón retaguardia!
