Finales de Torres (duración: dos horas):
Rey, torre y dos peones combinados contra rey y torre a menudo ganan, pero aquí es necesario observar algunos cuidados.
Juegan un papel importante las siguientes características:
1.Peones unidos o aislados (en este último caso la victoria es más difícil, pero si los peones están en las columnas "a" y/o "f" y "h" con una defensa precisa, es como regla, tablas).
2.Peones centrales o de flanco.
3.Posibilidad de dar un peón al rey contrincante.
4.Peligro de ahogo, el cual puede suceder cuando la lucha va a las casillas de la esquina.
En los finales de rey, torre y peón contra rey y torre, si el lado débil no puede colocar su torre delante del peón, o colocarse en el lado "corto" del peón, puede perder.

En los finales con una pieza menor por bando surge una cuestión fundamental sobre la valoración del alfil y el caballo.
En posiciones cerradas o donde el juego se realiza principalmente en un solo sector del tablero, el caballo muestra ser más útil. Pero en posiciones abiertas, con peones en ambos flancos, el alfil es preferible. Dado que las posiciones en el ajedrez tienen mayor tendencia a abrirse que a cerrarse, el alfil tiene más oportunidades de destacarse.
